Stay Safer Protest Tips

CHECK IN WITH YOURSELF

Where am I at? Take a breath.

Do I feel physically, emotionally, and spiritually prepared to hit the streets?

Do I have people to go out with?

Would I feel better expressing my dissent in other ways?

DON’T GO OUT ALONE

Do not go out alone under any circumstances.

Go with a buddy and stay with them at all times.

Agree upon a meet up location if you get split up for any reason.

BE COVID SAFE

We're seeing a spike in cases across the country and here In Wisconsin.

Always wear your mask, and bring hand sanitizer. Bring extras to share if you can.

Don't catch COVID from someone who doesn't believe in science.

STAY CONNECTED

Make sure you tell someone else who is staying home tonight where you are going and when you expect to be back.

Agree upon meet up place away from the action with your pal/team.

Let your remote person know as soon as you get home.

PRACTICE SITUATIONAL AWARENESS

Do not get sucked into a skirmish or confrontation.

Avoid tunnel vision: keep your eyes peeled and notice what's happening around you, and keep your ears open for strange sounds.

KNOW YOUR SURROUNDINGS

Look out for law enforcement and bad actors.

Notice potentially dangerous traffic patterns and dark places or dead ends.

BE AWARE OF WHERE YOUR BODY IS

At spontaneous actions, there likely will not be a clear march route or marshals. You will have to decide for yourself how close to the demonstration you want to be.

Know which direction you will exit from when you decide to leave. Try to anticipate which way a crowd might move to avoid getting caught in a stampede.

WALK BRISKLY & PURPOSEFULLY

Stay with your buddy while leaving the manifestation.

Take the best lit or most commercial route home, even if it is a little longer.
